On this day: Shaun Murphy takes glory in Llandudno after final-frame decider

Murphy had lost to Bingham 18-15 in the World Championship final the previous May.

But this time, he displayed remarkable poise and skill in front of a packed Venue Cymru, clinching a final-frame decider to win the match 10-9.

It marked a significant achievement for the then-33-year-old, as he clinched his sixth ranking title and collected £100,000 as the tournament winner.

Early in the contest, Murphy had looked in complete control, opening up a 4-1 lead.

However, it was Bingham, the then-world number two, who rallied back robustly, winning four frames in a row to edge ahead 5-4 by the break.

The final frame proved a tense affair.

Murphy had the first chance after potting a long red and scored 24 before running out of position.

After a safety exchange, he missed a tricky red to a top corner, with Bingham then rattling a red in the jaws of the same pocket.

Murphy though regained his footing and played a fantastic long red to a baulk corner to end another brief safety tussle.

He didn’t look back from there, adding 47 points to secure the title.
