Casualty stretchered to ambulance after breaking leg on the Great Orme

This happened yesterday (August 21), and was the second such incident on the Great Orme that Llandudno’s Coastguard team has been called to in the last week.

The Welsh Ambulance Service requested the Coastguard’s help in getting the casualty up a “very steep and slippery slope”.

A cliff rescue stretcher was used to convey the casualty to an ambulance.

The Coastguard team warned people about slippery grass in the area as a result of the dry weather.

A Llandudno Coastguard statement read: “This is the second broken leg on the Great Orme that we have dealt with this week.

“The dry weather has resulted in very little grass growth, and the grass is easily pulled out of the soil.

“As a result, the grass has become very slippery.

“Please take extra care when walking on the grassy slopes of the Great Orme and the Little Orme, and if an accident should happen, please call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
