Work begins on new McDonald’s restaurant on Mostyn Champneys Retail Park in Llandudno

BUILDING work has started on a new McDonald’s in Llandudno.

The existing McDonald’s restaurant on Mostyn Champney Retail Park will be moving into the new larger site, being built next to Iceland.

A McDonald’s spokesperson confirmed to the Pioneer: “We are excited that building work has begun on a new site within the Mostyn Champney Retail Park, which our existing restaurant will be moving to in the Summer.”

The existing restaurant, opposite Argos, is set to be demolished.

One person posted on public facebook group Llandudno Issues: “It would appear maybe Mcdonald’s new build is about to start, very large area next to Iceland. I must admit, I have said this before and they only built a compound for work men, lol but this area is massive.”

Another resident said the development was “long overdue” whilst another user commented “it has taken an awful lot of car parking spaces”.

Mostyn Champneys retail, owned by Hercules Unit Trust (HUT), is expected to undergo a shake-up.

A planning supporting statement, connected with plans – demolition of Class A3 restaurant and erection of class A1 store extension, together with elevational changes and re-configured car parking at units C and D at Mostyn Champneys retail, proposes that the Argos unit is extended and customer car parking close by re-configured in order to accommodate the provision of a larger Aldi store.

The landlord at the Argos store has given notice on the build.

HUT hope it can be re-located to a unit elsewhere on the site. This will be subject to a planning application to Conwy County Borough Council.

The document, submitted last year, states: “Mostyn Champneys Retail Park has continued to evolve and respond to changing trends within the retail sector, whilst at the same time still offering an opportunity for operators selling bulky goods and other goods in bulk, such as ‘main food’ and ‘top up’ shopping.

“Importantly, the retail by, by providing a larger unit by virtue of a small extension and amalgamation of two existing retail units (Argos and Aldi), offers a unique opportunity to provide a comparatively large, modern retail unit of some 1911m2, which is capable of accommodating the pressing operational/business requirement of a major multiple retailer, who is currently represented in Llandudno but who urgently requires a larger store in order to meet the growing expectations of its customers for an improved retail offer in a ‘fit for purpose’ modern store.”

HUT also hope to create a coffee shop on the park.
