Tributes continue to pour in for volunteer Pwllheli RNLI crew member and off-duty police officer who died in jet-ski incident

AS A MARK of respect, a lifeboat team retracted their Facebook page from public view.

RNLI Pwllheli Lifeboat took to Facebook on the morning of August 20 to say they had retracted their page after the death of PC Barry Davies.

The 49-year-old who lived in the Pwllheli area and was based at Porthmadog Police Station died following an incident involving a jet-ski off the coast of Pwllheli on Saturday, August 15.

RNLI Pwllheli posted on the social media site: “As a mark of respect, our facebook page was retracted from public view late on Saturday night after the sudden and tragic passing of one of our own crew members, Barry Davies.

“Barry had served on the crew here at Pwllheli for over 10 years and was respected and loved by all the crew that served beside him.

“Our deepest condolences are with Barry’s family at this difficult time, from all at the station.”

Both Pwllheli lifeboats were tasked late on Saturday afternoon on August 15 to the accident and despite their best efforts, Barry passed away a short time later.

The death has deeply saddened the community and team at Pwllheli.

Paying tribute to Barry, Clifford Thomas, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Pwllheli RNLI, said: ‘On behalf of everyone here at Pwllheli Lifeboat Station, I would like to send our heartfelt sympathy to Barry’s family, friends and colleges at this extremely difficult time.

“Barry was a much loved and respected crew member here at Pwllheli and we are devastated at the loss.’

Clive Moore, Coxswain at Pwllheli RNLI, said: “This was a particularly difficult and harrowing service for all involved at Pwllheli RNLI. Nothing prepares you for losing one of your own crew members and has deeply affected everyone here at the station.

“Barry served as a local police officer for many years and volunteered as a crew member here at Pwllheli RNLI. He was well respected in the local area, loved by many and will be sadly missed for his contribution to the local community.”

Barry served at Pwllheli RNLI on both the all-weather lifeboat and inshore lifeboats since 2007. He also played a part in the rescue of 21 people during his time as a n RNLI volunteer.

A fundraising page has been set up in memory of Barry. An incredible £5,000 has been raised.
