THE time capsule to be entombed in the planned new walls at Queens Park Craig y Don is to be known as TC 60, that being the year that it is to be removed.
TC 60 is currently being filled by the 10 to 11 year old children of Craig y Don School, under the supervision of their teachers – Joanne Lewis and Hugh LLewelyn-Jones.
The time capsule was kindly made and provided by Watkin Jones who have been supporters of the park for many years.
Jeff Wright, of Friends of Queens Park Community Group, said: “The time capsule will be placed to the side of the new walls that are going to be installed at the corner entrances to Queens Park. This project will restore these dilapidated walls to their former glory (As they were prior to the historic railings, that were once there having to be removed in 1940 for the concentrated effort towards World War Two, and the shortage of metal at that time, the railings went on to be used for the military).
“It has always been the intention of The Friends of Queens Park Community, in its long term business plan, to restore these walls in order to enhance the visual appearance of the park which has become a huge and very popular visiting attraction.”
The project came about following a huge £10,000 grant from the Gwynt y Mor Offshore Wind Farm Community Fund.
