A DEVELOPER and manager of retirement communities is hoping to build homes on a car park in Llandudno.
McCarthyStone has acquired an interest in land at Maelgwyn Road car park and are in the early stages of working up proposals for the site’s redevelopment.
Initial proposals include retirement living accommodation for private sale as well as rent and part rent-part buy.
A community consultation ends on July 8 and a virtual exhibition has been launched.
A document into ‘local need’, featured in the exhibition, says: “Aberconwy has a higher than average older population with 27.9 per cent of residents aged over 65 (compared to the national average of 18.5 per cent).
“The site’s location in Llandudno will benefit future residents, with local amenities on their doorstep, including shops, restaurants and health care facilities.
“We will be providing car parking for the use of future residents and guests. There will be 21 spaces within landscaped parking courtyards.”
McCarthy Stone say retirement living creates safe and secure environments meaning homeowners can continue to live an active, independent life with oversight care from their management company and an emergency call system.
Proposals for the site include creating 55 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. There will be communal facilities such as a residents’ lounge, refuse store and mobility scooter storage with charging points.
There will also be landscaped gardens around the site.
Grounds will be maintained on behalf of homeowners.
Apartments can be occupied by people aged 60 or over. The average age of residents upon purchase is 79.
The apartments are built to ‘Lifetime Homes’ standards and are adaptable for wheelchair use. They will feature 24-hour emergency call points, level-access bathrooms, good lighting and switches / electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending.
Residents are being asked to complete a feedback form and submit their suggestions.
