Llandudno is the UK’s 12th serial refund capital according to new study

A NEW edition of annual report has ranked Llandudno among the UK’s biggest “serial refunders” – customers who return purchases at an excessive volume.

The Serial Refunder Report, carried out by card payment provider Paymentsense, reveals UK small and medium-size enterprises lost an average of £15,600 a month due to serial refunders in 2021.

This comes as January refunds continue to grow by 39 per cent year-on-year.

Paymentsense analysed anonymised transactions from more than 54,000 of its card machines across 111 locations in the UK.

The unique data revealed the regions, industries and months with the highest value of returned items from October 2020 to September 2021.

Llandudno was ranked as the 12th worst offender of serial refunding in the UK out of 111 towns and cities.

Each month, an estimated £222 is refunded per location to small businesses in Llandudno.

This is an increase of £26 per month compared to 2020, which could be attributed to increased consumer spending as lockdowns cause a shift in consumer shopping habits online and offline.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, online sales have increased by more than 46 per cent in the UK since 2020, and 38 per cent of UK online shoppers now feel more confident in returning online purchases.

Meanwhile, “trade and trade supplies” ranked as the industry with the highest amount of refunds per location per month.

The industry in second place was “home and office furnishing”, which last year topped the leaderboard due to working from home becoming the new way of working for many people.
