Family discovers octopus on Welsh beach

Encountering the occasional crab or stranded jellyfish is typical during a beach visit. However, stumbling upon an octopus is a rare occurrence. Yet, this was the unexpected experience for a family in Llandudno.

Due to their worries about the octopus’s well-being, the family opted to assist and carefully guide it back to the sea. The creature has been recognized as a curled octopus, also referred to as a horned octopus.

These octopuses are commonly sighted in the waters of the British Isles, across European waters, and in the Mediterranean Sea. While their primary colour is red-brown, they have the remarkable ability to swiftly change colour to blend in with their surroundings.
